Dental Implants
Dental implants are a modern and innovative tooth replacement option that provides a long-lasting, natural-looking, and functional solution for missing teeth. A dental implant consists of a small titanium post that is surgically placed into the jawbone to serve as a replacement root. This post fuses with the bone over time, creating a stable foundation for a custom-made artificial tooth (crown) or a dental bridge.
Why should I have Dental Implants?
Natural-Looking and Functional Results: Dental implants closely mimic the look, feel, and function of natural teeth. The custom-made crown or bridge that attaches to the implant is designed to blend seamlessly with your existing teeth, creating a natural and harmonious smile. Dental implants provide exceptional stability and functionality, allowing you to eat, speak, and smile with confidence.
Permanent and Long-Lasting Solution: Unlike other tooth replacement options, dental implants are a permanent solution for missing teeth. With proper care and maintenance, dental implants can last a lifetime, making them a valuable and cost-effective investment in your oral health.
Preservation of Jawbone Health: When a tooth is lost, the underlying jawbone may begin to deteriorate due to lack of stimulation. Dental implants replace the missing tooth root, stimulating the bone and preventing bone loss. This helps maintain the structure and integrity of the jawbone and prevents facial sagging or a sunken appearance.
Improved Oral Health: Dental implants do not require the alteration or support of adjacent healthy teeth, unlike dental bridges. This preservation of neighboring teeth helps maintain their integrity and promotes overall oral health.
Enhanced Comfort and Convenience: Dental implants eliminate the discomfort and inconvenience associated with removable dentures. Unlike dentures, implants are permanently fixed in the mouth, eliminating the need for adhesives or worrying about them slipping or clicking while speaking or eating.
Restored Self-Confidence: Dental implants provide a natural-looking and beautiful smile, restoring your self-confidence and improving your quality of life. With implants, you can enjoy social interactions, eat your favorite foods, and speak without worrying about gaps or slipping restorations.
Procedure Practise
The placement of dental implants usually involves several stages and may require multiple visits to your Dr. Harman Raheja Dentistry. Here is a general overview of the dental implant process:
Initial Consultation and Treatment Planning: During your first visit, your dentist will evaluate your oral health, including the condition of your jawbone and surrounding teeth. They will discuss the feasibility of dental implants as a treatment option and create a personalized treatment plan tailored to your specific needs.
Implant Placement: The implant placement procedure is typically performed under local anesthesia to ensure your comfort. Your dentist will make a small incision in the gum tissue to access the underlying jawbone. A small hole is then created in the bone, and the titanium implant post is carefully inserted into the jawbone. The incision is sutured, and the healing process begins.
Osseointegration: Over the next few months, the implant post undergoes a process called osseointegration. During this time, the bone tissue fuses with the implant, creating a strong and stable anchor. This process ensures the implant becomes a permanent part of your jawbone.
Abutment Placement: Once osseointegration is complete, a small connector called an abutment is attached to the implant post. The abutment serves as a connection between the implant and the artificial tooth or dental bridge.
Crown or Bridge Placement: After the gums have healed and the abutment is in place, your dentist will take impressions of your mouth to create a custom-made crown or bridge. These restorations are designed to match the color, shape, and size of your natural teeth, ensuring a seamless and aesthetically pleasing result. The crown or bridge is securely attached to the abutment, completing the dental implant restoration.
